About the Artist: Najee Dorsey

Southern splendor comes to mind when thinking about the artwork of Najee Dorsey, a native of Arkansas who now lives in Atlanta.  At 34, Najee shares his southern roots through colorful themes of heritage, a strong work ethic, motherhood, loving couples, music scenes and political commentary using a bright, vivid palette.

Over the past 15 years, Najee has produced a body of work that has grown in substance and style, capturing the lifestyle of the Mississippi Delta. His pieces have been collected throughout the country and exhibited throughout the South; in Chicago; New York, and California.

Najee is now in position to be recognized on the national art scene.

Primarily self-taught, the artist credits part of his development to mentor Najjar Abdul-Musawwir, fine arts professor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Najee has received numerous honors throughout his career, including the 2006 Patrons Purchase Award from the Polk Museum of Art.  Through Nicole Gallery, his talent is now recognized throughout Chicago.

"It's my goal
 to continue producing art
that taps into the depths
 of my creativity
visually, spiritually
 and emotionally,
 and to celebrate that success
 with those who truly love
and appreciate art.
